Another 9/11 has come and gone. Out of the 2001 different facebook fads that have shown up for things to do today, I only fell for one. [granted, I had been looking for a profile pic change anyways--at least for a while.]
My tale was simple. I was 10 when it happened, and I was homeschooled, so I saw it from home. I even remember that the night before, my mom said we would make pizza that day.
I was too young and foolish to understand what went down that day, but looking back, why should we forget what happened? Frankly, I almost miss the post-9/11 days. Americans were actually patriotic back then. Hopefully this day can serve as a reminder that United We Stand, Divided we fall. I've had enough of the R and the D. what I want to see is the U, the S, and the A. as whacked-out as the Deep South, New England, SoCal, or Narnia may be, it is all America, and we are American. As much as our country is on its way down the hole, it is still America, and there is still hope to salvage it.
I am not saying that we need to stat a revolution. I am saying that we need to remain united. 11 September 2001 is a day that we need to remember for the heroism of those that saved lives or fought back. They didn't care who the people they were saving were. They went in and many gave their lives in the burning buildings. The passengers of Flight 93 put what differences they may have had apart, and overran the cowards in the cockpit, giving their lives so that many more would not be lost, had the plane reached whatever target the terrorists had planned for it.
My prayers go out to those who were affected that day 10 years ago, and while dwelling on ugly events like this one are not something I would recommend anyone doing, remembering the lessons learned from them, as well as the good that came from them, such as the selfless act of the heroes of that day, should never be forgotten.
However, death is not the end. It is but the transition from one phase to another...
